Deschutes Brewery Bend Oregon

A handpressed beef patty from Borlen Cattle Company, a ranch 19 miles east of Bend, with Black Butte Porter and Worchestershire glazed portabello mushrooms. The patty is topped with local Tumalo Farms Pondhopper cheese, housemade Black Butte Porter mustard and romaine lettuce on a challah roll.  The very description of the Beer Burger, one of the menu favorites at Deschutes Brewery Public House, is indicitive of the values that makes this place such a crowd pleaser.  Handcrafted food, conscientious (hormone free and sustainable), fresh and locally sourced artisanal ingredients, Deschutes Brewery is not just a place to toss back a pint. Although, that would be entirely acceptable.

Deschutes Brewery continues to add to its trophy case with signatures Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Black Butte Porter, as well as new and seasonal brews.  The Abyss, a stout under the reserve series produced in limited quantities, is in its sixth release and was named on CNBC’s World’s Best Beers (source: CNBC).  Home-bakers might try the recipe for The Abyss Chocolate Brownies.  Red Chair North West Pale Ale just took home an award from the 2011 World’s Beer Awards for World’s Best Extra Strong Pale Ale (source: World Beer Awards), you may notice that both Deschutes and another Oregon export, Rogue Ales, have claimed several awards.

Come and grab a beer in the bar or sit down in the newly renovated dining room that tripled the size of the restaurant.  The pub house is always abuzz with locals and visitors alike, continuing to serve as a community watering hole and center of Bend’s social scene.  Parking can be tough and they do not accept reservations, so plan ahead and enjoy the evening.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY?

  1. Betty says:

Deschutes Brerwery’s Pub, since the remodel opened back up, is incredibly over-priced, sadly. My family and I went there and we ordered (ironically, after reading the PR blurb, above) burgers. Mine was just their normal burger (nothing fancy). It is half the size (approximately) that their burgers used to be (pre-remodel) and, unbelievably it is $15! I added a slice of cheddar cheese and that was $1.50!! The burger was nothing incredible (in size nor flavor) but it cost, all total, $16.50.

If you go to the Pub – be forewarned.
