Skiing in Oregon – Mt Bachelor
(Bend, Ore) Did you happen to hear the good news? Mt Bachelor is open! Well good snow not only means good fun for skiers and boarders, it also means big business for local adventure shops, ski resorts, hotels, restuarants, tire shops and on and on…
Click here for the latest opening day info, snow report and live web cam with real time mountain conditions.
You know the saying… If you can ski Mt Bachelor you can ski anywhere. Oregon skiers are so lucky to have world class skiing within 3 hrs drive! But can you guess how many locals don’t take advantage of it? Too many to mention here… it breaks my heart!
Here are a few helpful hints to get you on your way up the mountain:
Driving to Mt Bachelor? You’ll need a 4-wheel drive or chains. Find directions here.
Tickets: Mt Bachelor tickets are affordable and they have a very flexible schedule for the budget skier (from $50 – $70). A full day, all mountain, adult weekend lift ticket is $70 for world class skiing or snowboarding… Or save with a group rate! Click here for more info!
Need Gear? Best to be prepared and gear up before you head up the mountain. A few of our favorites are Rogue Ski Shop in Medford. They have a huge selection of all the top brands, specializing in downhill skiing and snowboarding… they ski the same runs you do, they get it and understand what you need. The Ashland Outdoor Store specializes in backcountry skiing and snowshoeing gear. They have a small gear selection, but only carry products they love. They also carry my favorite ski socks along with hats and layers for all outdoor activities.
Food: You will need some! You can always pack your meals and snacks and enjoy in the lodge. If you would like to buy instead, the lodges have a few choices, see here!
If you *must* try some place a little closer you can go to, Mt Shasta is 70 miles south and Willamette Pass is 80 miles north. But for the only world class skiing and snowboarding in Oregon go to Mt Bachelor, you won’t be sorry.
