In 1995 Earl and Hilda Jones planted the first Tempranillo in the Pacific Northwest. To commemorate this regional accomplishment they named the vineyard Avacela from a Spanish/Portuguese word avacelar, meaning to “plant a grapevine”.

Located on the sunny, south sloping, rocky hills of the Umpqua Valley, Abacela Winery passionately grows Tempranillo and other varietals carefully matched to their unique microclimate.
