The Red Hibiscus – Ashland

Hawaiian Shave Ice is fluffy shaved ice, topped with delicious flavors. The ultimate thirst quenching dessert in the summer!

I heard through the grapevine there was a new kid in town… serving shave ice. The Red Hibiscus in Ashland is a Hawaiian Fusion Restaurant on North First Street in Downtown Ashland. The new menu is fresh and complete with Hawaiian favorites like the popular Kalua Pork Sandwich, Fusion dishes including Pork Adobo and Spring Rolls and only a few appearances of SPAM. But the star of this show is the Hawaiian Shave Ice!

Created when you order, and piled high in the perfect shave ice vessel… these are not your usual desserts! The Red Hibiscus is making their own syrups… from real fruit! There were 3 flavors to choose from the evening we visited – orange, raspberry and strawberry. The syrups were just sweet enough, natural in color (no crazy green or blue ice here!) and simply delicious!

You can choose to have your Ice served Hawaiian Style with a scoop of vanilla ice cream at the bottom or not. Of course, I choose Hawaiian Style…I could go on about the creamsicle effect when it all melts together!

The Red Hibiscus is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30am to 8pm. Enjoy your dessert in the small outdoor seating area or take it with you on a stroll through town… we took ours to the GreenShow!
