Fall Foliage in Southern Oregon

The peak of fall color season has arrived. While I am still having trouble believing the calendar, the fall foliage in Southern Oregon is beginning to change, which means it’s just about October.

While color conditions can change on a daily basis, the next few weeks should be fantastic for fall foliage viewing. Here are a few of our favorite routes and ideas for fall foliage viewing in Southern Oregon.

A Few of Our Favorite Fall Foliage Routes:

Ashland – Howard Prairie/Hyatt Lake: I-5 to Ashland exit 14. OR 66 for approx ½ mile. Left on Dead Indian Memorial Road. Turn onto Howard Praire-Hyatt Lake Road (Mile marker 17)

Roseburg – Umpqua River: Take I-5 to Roseburg. Follow Hwy 138 along the Umpqua River.

Roads Leading to Crater Lake: Any of these are fabulous drives!

• From Medford: Highway 62 north and east to the park’s west entrance. (pass one of our favorite hikes – Mill Creek Falls)
• From Roseburg: Highway 138 east to the park’s north entrance
• From Klamath Falls: Route 97 to Route 62 north and west to the park’s south entrance

Grants Pass to Brookings: Hwy 199 along the Illinois and Smith Rivers. You can follow this all the way to the Coast.

Medford to Klamath Falls: Highway 140
